Mother Nature will have her way – but team Nigeria (University of Calabar) are taking it all in their stride and pushing experimental science to the next level!
It is with absolute admiration that we post this latest update for ‘PHISICC in the Field”.
Quick quiz: What’s the best way to cross a river? What about a flooded road? What should one do with a flooded motorbike engine? Are satellite maps worth their salt on the ground?

At the beginning of July, fieldworkers led by the PHISICC trial coordinator, Dr Nnette Ekpengyong, landed in Yala, a local government area in northern Cross River State. Their mission? To start the baseline data collection for the PHISICC trial.
Yes, you read it right – the PHISICC trial is underway!

As we edge towards August, the team have almost finished this first phase of data collection. The official trial launch will follow in August and from that point, all selected sites will use the PHISICC intervention.
To celebrate this breakthrough moment and the team’s fantastic – and quite eventful – efforts, we hope you’ve enjoyed this short series of photos from the field.
Many thanks to you all! May the successful adventures continue!
